Have you ever wondered how many animals suffer in labs? It's a good question. Because there are so many animals in laboratories and records are not kept for all animals.

Vivisection is the practice of experimenting on live animals. Over 25 million animals in the U.S. suffer and are killed each year in laboratories for product and cosmetic testing, in education, and in biomedical experimentation. Often these tests do not even purport to be linked to human health.

Many household products and cosmetics companies still pump their products into animals' stomachs, rub them onto their skin, squirt them into their eyes, or force animals to inhale them as aerosol sprays.

Dogs are also used in product tests. Beagles are a common choice by researchers due to their typically gentle and friendly nature.

To test the effects of cigarettes, dogs have been involved in experiments where they are forced to inhale cigarette smoke.

Rabbits have chemicals dripped into their eyes and are locked into devices that stop them from attempting to rub their eyes clean. They are left to languish for days on end as the chemicals slowly burn their sensitive eye tissue.

Cats have been poked and prodded with a needle, cutting out their eyes just to see if they feel pain.

Urge your elected politician to ban these barbaric practices.  Animal life should not be sacrificed due to American consumerism.  And with regards to education, our children should be learning respect for life and the natural world around them, classroom dissection and other mutilation exercises send the opposite message to young, impressionable minds: that life is cheap, expendable and unimportant.
