Downed Animal Protection - No Downers Campaign

Downed Animal Protection - No Downers Campaign

The USDA closed a loophole and banned downed cattle from being slaughtered and entering the human food supply. While this step is a milestone in efforts to protect those animals too sick and injured to walk, or even stand, protections need to be expanded to all species. Help continue this momentum.

Thank you for closing the loophole that allowed downed cattle to be slaughtered and to enter the food supply. This will prevent a lot of cruelty and suffering and demonstrates a commitment to the humane treatment of livestock.

Please take another step forward, and apply this rule to all species of livestock, including pigs, sheep and goats. They too suffer when they are unable to stand and walk on their own and are pushed and prodded to the slaughter line.

Thank you for taking action and contacting your legislators. Indeed, it makes a huge difference for farm animals. Please also consider signing up for Farm Sanctuary’s Advocacy Campaign Team, which is an ideal way of staying on top of our national campaigns, local volunteer opportunities, and inspiring activist stories. Thank you for closing the loophole that allowed downed cattle to be slaughtered and to enter the food supply. This will prevent a lot of cruelty and suffering and demonstrates a commitment to the humane treatment of livestock. This will also contribute to better, safer food for everyone.

This is extremely dangerous to people too. I will never again eat meat or dairy unless it was raised in my community by someone I know and can trust to not poison me with antibiotics and hormones and who knows what other chemicals, not to mention passing on diseases! YUK!! Just the thought of meat makes me sick (I have a "strong stomach" btw, no prob with dissecting assignments in biology labs). And when an animal is suffering the animal itself manufactures chemicals that also contaminate the meat and milk ... fear is one of the most toxic of the emotions ...

I am not even yet talking about how such treatment of animals de-human-izes the abusers. ... or is it all done with scary machines now?

There is NO EXCUSE for so many downed animals. It is a sign of gross mis-management of all resources and I SHUDDER to think of the kind of people who are capable of mass mis-treatment of animals ... omg
